Etel-Köz was the Moldavian land of the Ugrian Közari which was ruled by the Bulanids. It was established by the Akötziri who remained there after Etel's son Csaba the Hun left for the Ukraine in the 5th century. It fell under the rule of Edemen's Avars in the 6th century and was crushed by the Utigurs of his Ukrainian brother Ed. It was ruled by Kubrat's Kubiars in the 7th century before gaining independence in the 8th century when its rulers converted to Judaism. Many of its Székely Közari migrated westward leaving Közari graves in Chelarevo and other Közari traces in Crisana such as Satmar. Etel-Köz entered into an alliance with the Hungarians in the 9th century to liberate the Western Székely Közari who had fallen under the rule of Moravia. After helping the Hungarians Etel-Köz survived until its Eastern provinces were practically abandoned by the Szekely Közari in the 11th century leaving behind only a tiny remnant of Ugrians known as the Csangos who were converted to Catholicism by the Cuman Diocese while the Judaic Szekelys established a new base in Transylvanian Etel-Köz which survived until 1989.
